VVX Series Desk Phone

This help article demonstrates some common cabling and interconnections for the Polycom VVX Series Desk Phones.

Common Setup Includes:

  • Attaching the handset/receiver
  • Connecting to power source (if needed)
  • Connecting to the network

Optional Additional Connections:

  • Connecting a PC to the rear of the phone
  • Connecting a reception side car

Available ports on the back of the phone

The Polycom phone has several purpose-built ports:

  • The Power port is for an external AC adapter (this is optional)
  • The Headset port for an external corded or cordless headset unit
  • The Ethernet port is your uplink to your local network, typically includes power to the phone
  • The Daisychain (or PC) port is used to daisychain your computer off the back of the phone
  • The Handset port is used to connect the provided handset/receiver.

Connecting the provided Handset

  1. Plug the jack closest to the straight end of the cord into the handset port on the back of the phone.
  2. Thread the straight end of the cord through the channel in the phone.
  3. Plug the other end of the cord into the port on the handset.

Connecting (optional) external AC adapter

If your network does not provide POE (Power over Ethernet), you will require an external AC power adapter. This will connect into the 48V port on the back of the phone and into a power source.

Connecting the phone to the network

Connect an Ethernet cable from the port with the Ethernet symbol on the back of the phone.

Connect the other end of this Ethernet cable to your network switch or Ethernet wall jack.

VVX Network Uplink

Connecting reception side-car

  1. Plug one end of the short cord supplied with the expansion module into the Aux port on the phone.
  2. Plug the other end of the short cord supplied with the expansion module into the Aux 1 port on the expansion module.
  3. Insert the small metal bracket into the channels on the back of the phone. Note: the bracket only properly fits one way, if the holes don’t align, flip the bracket around.
  4. Secure the metal bracket with the thumbscrews.

Connecting a PC to the back of the phone

Once your phone is connected to the network via the Ethernet port on the back of the phone

  1. Plug one end of a second Ethernet cable into the port with the computer icon on the phone.
  2. Plug the other end of the second Ethernet cable into the computer.
